How to Edit a Photo in PicMonkey & Upload it to WordPress

If you like to use PicMonkey to edit your photos (or if you don’t even know what PicMonkey is) then you need to watch my video tutorial which will show you how to reduce the file size of your photo for faster load times on your WordPress site.

Video Notes

Upload your photo to PicMonkey.
Crop the photo as desired. You can use one of the preset cropping sizes or just crop as desired.
Reduce the file size with the resize feature. I recommend choosing the exact width you need to fill most of your content area in your post.
Optional: Add text, frames, etc. to your photo.
Save your photo. Make sure the file is no more than 200 KB to ensure the fastest load times for your site. Also, rename your photo when you save it.
Upload the file to WordPress and insert it into your post.
Set a featured image for your post.
Preview your post to double check how the photo looks.
Publish your post.

As you can see from the video the process is pretty simple if you have even a minimal knowledge of Photoshop.

While I don’t have a tutorial for how to use the template in Photoshop Elements, I am sure the process would be similar.

Free Printable Budget Envelopes

While web/blog design is our primary focus, we also offer graphic design services.

I recently created a set of printable budget envelopes for the Queen of Free and I think they will be a great help to anyone who uses the cash envelope system.

I am definitely going to be printing a set of these budgeting envelopes for myself.

Along with a set of budget envelopes for adults, I also created a set for kids.

These will be great for kids to learn about how to budget their money.

How to Write a WordPress Post (Part 2)

If you haven’t watched the first video of how to log in and write a post in WordPress, please do so because this video will make more sense if you do. 🙂

To add a picture to a post you need to click the Add Media button that is directly below your post title.
A new window will pop up with the option to use a picture you have already uploaded or to upload a new picture.
When you choose to upload a new picture a window will pop up asking you select the picture from your computer.
Select the picture and click the button that says Choose.
Your picture will upload and then you can select the Insert Into Post button on the right side. (You may have to scroll down slightly.)
The picture will then be inserted into your post.
You can choose to left, right, or center align your photo.
Another feature you can use in your posts is the heading feature. You can choose to use various heading sizes for important text you want to highlight. These are located in a drop down menu below the Add Media button.
There are also options for using bullets and numbers. I have used the numbering feature for this list.
Below the area where you can write a post there are various options. Two that you might choose to use are the Custom Document Title (Just retype your post title here.) and the Custom Post Meta Description (You could write a short, description paragraph about your post.). These two features are supposed to be good for SEO and would be the information that would show up in a Google search versus the first few lines of your post.
If you like to write ahead you can schedule your posts in advance by changing the date your post will publish. You can also change the date if you started the post earlier and came back to finish it another date and want it to be published as soon as you are finished.
